The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor who is looking to build their commercial experience within a hands-on civil construction environment.

Working alongside experienced project and commercial personnel, you will be involved across the full project lifecycle, gaining exposure to estimating, procurement, subcontractor management, cost control, variations, forecasting, and contract administration.

The role would suit someone early in their QS career who is commercially minded, enjoys working in a fast-paced project environment, and wants to develop their skills while taking on increasing responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the commercial management of civil infrastructure projects from tender through to completion

  • Support the preparation of project budgets, cost estimates, forecasts, and financial reports

  • Assist with tendering, pricing, procurement, and evaluation of subcontractor and supplier proposals

  • Manage and maintain accurate cost records and project financial information

  • Monitor project expenditure and identify potential cost pressures or commercial risks

  • Prepare and assess variations, payment claims, and other contractual documentation

  • Assist with subcontract administration and maintaining strong commercial relationships

  • Work closely with Project Managers, engineers, site teams, clients, and subcontractors

  • Assist with monthly forecasting, cost-to-complete reviews, and project reporting

  • Support the preparation of final accounts and project close-out documentation

  • Review project documentation to ensure commercial obligations are being met

  • Contribute to identifying opportunities to improve project performance and profitability

  • Build strong working relationships across both the office and site teams

Skills And Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction, or a related discipline

  • Some experience within the New Zealand construction or civil infrastructure sector

  • Understanding of basic quantity surveying and commercial principles

  • Interest in developing a career within civil construction and infrastructure

  • Strong numerical and analytical ability with good attention to detail

  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities

  • Confident communication skills and the ability to build relationships with a range of stakeholders

  • A practical and proactive approach to problem solving

  • Comfortable working collaboratively with project and site teams

  • Good understanding of Microsoft Office and project-related systems

  • Full New Zealand driver's licence

  • A genuine willingness to learn and take on increasing responsibility
